I love the composition of this postcard: The horse-drawn cart on the left, I guess full of fresh sea food, the tram over there on the right, advertising Dubonnet on its side and the car in the centre. The postcard is unposted so we don’t have a date stamp but it looks early twentieth century – before the First World War anyway, so we had better call it a motor car or better still a motor carriage. But what is it exactly? When you look carefully, the rear bodywork is a box on the back and it’s pretty big. So is it an early pickup?
The registration “E” tells us that it was registered in Paris but other than that I have no information. I can’t see a driver so perhaps it belongs to the photographer? In which case maybe his tripod and camera went in the back. What do you think?
