Mystery at the end of the Pier

Southport

So what have we here? A Ford Anglia Estate and a Morris Minor Traveller on the pavement. A brown BMC 1100/1300 to the right of the Golden Goose. A Reliant Robin three-wheeler, VW Beetle and Hillman Minx parked on the road. Another Minx waiting at the crossing and then there’s that big, two door, fastback coupe.

Originally I thought it was a Ford Granada Coupe, but they didn’t have front quarter light windows. Is it an Opel Rekord coupe? Not sure about those badges on the wings though. I think I’ll have to tag it as a Mystery for now.

  1. That would be either an Opel Rekord or a Commodore, which was a later luxurious variant of the Rekord. The Minxes are either a V or a VI – ugliest version of the Minx family. The Reliant is actually a Regal – it is the magnificently named Supervan!

  2. It’s a Commodore, being the six-cylinder version (engine borrowed from Kapitän / Admiral) of the Rekord. It also featured a black vinyl roof, a different grille, more chrome and other nice details. Of course it had a more luxurious interior as well. There was a two-door, four-door and (as on the photo) a Coupé. By the way: I definitely like the shape of those two Minxes!
