Epping Jag passes Black Hole

epping forest jagI bought this postcard for the Mk II Jaguar, with its ‘double’ rear bumper, semi spats over the rear wheels and folded back Webasto sunroof  and the fact that it was passing a very modern looking motel sign.  (Why I like that I can’t really explain). However, now I have it, what leaps out at me are those three women. Maybe on ebay they looked like manikins in a shop window, but they’re real women and they’re disappearing into a black hole like in a scene from a David Lynch movie.   Did they ever get out again?

Later (Dec 2015) edit…

A reader going by the name VFK44 added the following comment to this post and I have included his image below.  He’s absolutely right – the new building looks much older. A shame really in my opinion.

“As I live in Epping, I was puzzled about the location of this photo. It turns out the wildly modern 1960s building was in the heart of the historic High Street, but was knocked down (in the 1980s?) and replaced with something that looks 200 years older!”

  1. As I live in Epping, I was puzzled about the location of this photo. It turns out the wildly modern 1960s building was in the heart of the historic High Street, but was knocked down (in the 1980s?) and replaced with something that looks 200 years older!
The link below shows the modern appearance of the site, with the mysterious black hole lightened by opening up the side wall. I’ve taken a look and the ladies are not still inside!
There is a passing car outside and I’m glad to report that it is still a compact Jaguar (X-type, not Mk2).

  2. Apologies for not approving your comment earlier. Somehow I had overlooked it. It is strange how our high streets ‘develop’ isn’t it. I took a screenshot from your google street view link and will add it to the post. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Best wishes, Bob.
