This is Market Place in Blandford Forum in Dorset, I guess taken in the late fifties or early sixties. What’s interesting to me are the two yellowish Fords. The one on the left is a Prefect 100E. Over 100,000 of these were made between 1953 and 59. On the right, with those oh so elegant pieces of wood screwed to the side is the estate car variant, the Ford Squire. Fewer than 18,000 were made.
The following little film by the Ford Motor Company, made in 1952, promotes these cars and notes that they are so modern they have “driving pedals that cut out drafts”. The things we take for granted these days!
