This photo comes from the marvellous James Gray Collection of the Regency Society in Brighton. James Gray was a passionate collector of photographs of Brighton and Hove Streets. His interest here was the houses in Hove Park Gardens, but for us it must be that little Fiat 600 estate. This is May 1969 and although over a million water cooled 600s were produced, I don’t think many made it across the channel. This one has an unusual registration number – 708BHO, which isn’t a UK plate, but it is right hand drive. If anyone knows where it came from, do add a comment. The car in front is a Hillman Minx from the mid fifties.
