An SL with mirrors.

The subject of this postcard is the Tamar Bridge which opened on October 24th 1961 and spans the River Tamar from Plymouth to Saltash, but it’s that bright red Mercedes 190SL that interests me.  So exotic amongst the stodge of the rest of the car park.  This was the first generation SL roadster – produced from 1955 to 1963 and I wouldn’t have thought many were made with right-hand drive and imported into the UK.  This one seems a little unusual to me in that it has wing mirrors. I have never seen another 190 SL with them.  I wonder whether it survives.  If it does, I bet those mirrors have been removed and the holes in the wings filled.  That’s the trouble with restorations; they put things back to before the car developed its character.
